An Action Packed Adventure

Feb, 2024 by Adam Wright, President of Dallas Baptist University

Our journey was action-packed from sunrise to sunset, filled with unforgettable moments and deep conversations. As soon as we touched down in Washington, D.C., we headed straight from the airport to meet Senator James Langford on the Capitol steps. Originally, we were supposed to meet in his office, but the State of the Union address that evening made the Capitol steps the perfect impromptu setting.

Our itinerary was nothing short of remarkable. We visited prestigious law offices, met with elected officials, and explored the hallowed halls of the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives. We wandered through the immersive exhibits of the Museum of the Bible and found inspiration at Mount Vernon and Monticello. Our journey took us to the University of Virginia, William and Mary College, and the charming streets of Williamsburg. Every stop carried a sense of history and purpose.

A highlight of the trip was meeting with interpreters who embodied Thomas Jefferson at different stages of his life. They brought history to life in a way that sparked curiosity and thoughtful dialogue among our students.

The trip wasn’t just about history—it was about connection and growth. We shared meals that nourished both body and soul, engaged in meaningful discussions, and found time for quiet moments of prayer and reflection. It was a true expression of human flourishing as we discovered more about God’s plan for each of our lives.

We used the NLT Student Life Application Bible and the Paul Tripp Devotional. Before the trip, each student downloaded the Filament Bible app so they could dive right into scripture throughout our journey.

Our days were guided by a thoughtful lecture schedule, each session woven with scripture references that enriched our experiences. These mature and faith-driven students, already deeply committed to their Christian beliefs, returned home with a renewed appreciation for the role of God’s Word in their lives.

We were immensely blessed by a donor who covered half the trip fees, ensuring that finances were not a barrier to participation. This act of generosity made a tremendous impact. We are planning a reunion with the students and the donor, a former commanding officer at Camp David, so he can hear firsthand about the students’ transformative experiences.

Every student walked away from this journey describing it as life-changing. Thank you for believing in our work at DBU and partnering with us on this noble endeavor. It’s a privilege to be part of transforming hearts and lives for the glory of God.
